Windsurfing: Overcombe Wind Direction: E Wind Stength: F3-4 Surf / Sea State: 2-3 foot swells Air Temperature: 24C Sea Temperature: Shortie temp! Weather: Fantastic: Wall to wall sunshine Max Speed: Distance Covered:
Slightly dubious about making the 2 1/4 hr trip down from N of Bristol with
the dodgy wind forecast. Anyhow, got down there by 09:30 - just as well as
the car park was almost full with day trippers.
A couple of other Nomads had made the trip down expecting there to be more
wind, so we hung around until about 10:30, by which time I though it was
time to bet the "big stuff" out. Usually, I don't like using such big kit
because it's so heavy & unwieldy lugging it to the water's edge and even
worse - lugging it back again. The beauty of Overcombe is that the car park
is pretty much at the water's edge, even at low tide. The downside is the
shoredump at high tide.
However, Sunday saw a prolonged low tide & the swells were small, so no
real shoredump problems.
In the end, the gear was perfect for the day - nothing hugely exciting, but
nicely powered-up all the time (except a 1 hour period early afternoon when
the wind dropped), blasting out & back.
One thing the AHD Diamond 77 is not good for is waveriding! That said, with
enough commitment and effort, it can be heaved up & down a wave face and
even jumped (sort-of), though the 9.4m sail does make it all a bit
cumbersome (and worrying if you're in the path of it!!).
A nice, simple, relaxing, fun day - in a shortie wetsuit under blazing
sunshine. What more could one ask for?
